What scroll heatmaps show
Scroll heatmaps show how far visitors scroll down a page. They help you understand which sections are commonly seen and which sections are missed.
Use scroll heatmaps to answer:
- Do visitors reach the main call to action?
- Is important content too far down the page?
- Where do visitors stop scrolling?
- Do mobile visitors reach the same sections as desktop visitors?
Reading scroll depth
The top of a page usually has the highest visibility. Visibility drops as the page continues.
If an important section sits below the point where most visitors stop scrolling, move it higher or add a stronger reason to continue.
Compare content position
Use scroll heatmaps to review the position of:
- calls to action
- pricing
- signup forms
- testimonials
- feature comparisons
- trust indicators
- FAQs
Content that supports conversion should usually appear before major drop-off points.
Mobile scroll behavior
Mobile pages are often much taller than desktop pages. A section that appears above the fold on desktop may be far down the page on mobile.
Review mobile and desktop separately before deciding whether content is visible enough.
Use scroll with click heatmaps
Scroll heatmaps show whether visitors reach a section. Click heatmaps show whether they interact with it.
If visitors reach a section but do not click, the content may not be persuasive. If visitors never reach the section, placement may be the issue.
