Before you start
Create a UserTrail site for the domain or landing page you want to track. Copy the tracking snippet from the site settings or installation modal.
You need permission to edit scripts or custom code in Instapage.
Add the snippet
In Instapage, add the UserTrail snippet to the page or workspace script area that loads on the landing pages you want to track.
General steps:
- Open the landing page in Instapage.
- Find the custom code or scripts area.
- Add the UserTrail snippet to the header section when available.
- Save and publish the page.
- Visit the published URL to test recording.
If you have several landing pages, make sure the snippet is added to each page or to a shared script area.
Track campaign pages
Instapage is often used for paid campaigns. Use UserTrail to compare:
- campaign landing page clicks
- scroll depth
- form interaction
- mobile and desktop behavior
- traffic source quality
- friction events on calls to action
Make sure UTM parameters remain on the landing page URL so traffic source analysis is useful.
Verify recording
Open the published landing page, interact with it, and then check UserTrail.
Confirm:
- the session appears
- the landing page path is tracked
- heatmap clicks appear
- form interactions appear if a form is present
- mobile layout works if the campaign sends mobile traffic
Troubleshooting
If no data appears:
- confirm the page was published after adding the snippet
- check the script was added to the correct page
- test the published URL, not only the editor preview
- check consent or cookie banner behavior
- test without ad blockers
