Before you start

Create a site in UserTrail and copy the tracking snippet. You need permission to add custom code in Squarespace.

Some Squarespace plans or templates may limit where custom code can be added.

Add the snippet to Squarespace

Use Squarespace's custom code or code injection settings to add the UserTrail snippet.

General steps:

1. Open your Squarespace site settings.
2. Find the custom code or code injection area.
3. Paste the UserTrail snippet into the header area.
4. Save changes.
5. Visit the live site to test recording.

Add the snippet globally if you want to track the whole site. Add it to specific pages if you only want to track selected landing pages.

Consent and privacy

If your site uses a cookie banner or consent tool, configure UserTrail so it only loads after analytics consent is granted.

Mask forms and private areas before collecting visitor sessions. This is especially important for contact forms, member areas, and checkout-related pages.

Verify recording

After saving the code:

1. Open the live Squarespace site.
2. Visit a tracked page.
3. Click and scroll.
4. Wait for processing.
5. Open UserTrail Sessions and Heatmaps.

Confirm that your test session appears and the page path is correct.

Troubleshooting

If UserTrail does not record:

• confirm you saved and published the code
• check the snippet appears on the live site
• test outside the Squarespace editor
• disable ad blockers during testing
• check consent settings
• confirm the site id matches the UserTrail site
